Barite powder mainly comes from barite ore, formed via sedimentary or hydrothermal processes. Sedimentary barite develops in marine basins or evaporite settings, where barium ions from weathered rocks combine with water sulfates to form layered deposits, often alongside shale or limestone. 
Hydrothermal barite originates from hot mineral fluids in volcanic or tectonic zones. As these fluids cool, barite precipitates in veins or fractures, yielding higher-purity deposits in areas like the Andes.
After mining, the ore is crushed, ground, and processed via flotation or gravity separation to remove impurities. For high-purity needs, chemical leaching or calcination may further refine it. Particle size is adjusted by screening, creating coarse powders for drilling muds or fine ones for paints and plastics. Its density and chemical inertness make it vital in oil drilling, metallurgy, and radiation shielding, with global supply relying on geological variety and industrial processing.
